AI Specialist Team · Sleep
Pediatric sleep guidance, in your pocket at 3am.
The Sleep Specialist is one of seven AI specialists inside the Kiri app. Trained on AAP, AASM, NSF, and CDC pediatric sleep guidance, and aware of your baby's actual data.

What parents actually ask
The Sleep Specialist is designed for the questions that don't fit a pillar page. The ones that show up at 2am, or after the third night of a regression, or when you've already read everything online and still don't have an answer.
“My 4-month-old started waking every 90 minutes overnight. Is this the regression?”
“How long should my 7-month-old's wake windows be right now?”
“We just dropped the third nap and bedtime got later. What should I do?”
“My toddler is climbing out of the crib at 2am. Is it time for a bed?”
“Should I sleep train now or wait? She's 4.5 months and cluster-feeding at night.”
“What's the difference between a night terror and a nightmare?”
Why it's different from a general chatbot
Sleep is one of the highest-stakes parenting questions and one of the easiest to get wrong with a generic AI. The Sleep Specialist is purpose-built for pediatric sleep, with four constraints baked in.
Knows your baby's actual data
Kiri's tracker captures every nap, every night-waking, every feed. The Sleep Specialist references that data when answering — it's not guessing from a generic FAQ.
Age-aware, not generic
Wake windows for a 3-month-old aren't wake windows for a 14-month-old. The Specialist tailors every answer to your child's age band (0–5 years) and developmental stage.
Sources cited
Answers come with the underlying citation when it matters. The AAP says X; the AASM consensus is Y. You get to see the reasoning, not just the verdict.
Not a replacement for your pediatrician
Anything that crosses into medical territory — gasping during sleep, sudden weight loss, persistent illness — the Specialist tells you that explicitly and recommends a real clinician.
Grounded in trusted sources
Every answer is anchored to one or more of the following. The Specialist names the source when the parent asks why.
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
Safe-sleep recommendations, sleep duration guidance, and the 2022 task-force update on reducing sleep-related infant deaths.
American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
Recommended sleep durations for pediatric ages (2016 consensus), endorsed by the AAP and the CDC.
National Sleep Foundation
Age-by-age sleep need ranges and behavioral sleep medicine resources.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Pediatric sleep guidance and the public-health framing of why pediatric sleep matters.
Pediatric sleep specialist consensus
Cross-referenced practitioner frameworks from Mindell & Owens, Weissbluth, Ferber, Hogg, and Courtney Palm (Kiri clinical advisor).
The Specialist + DreamGenius
DreamGenius is the structured 2-week sleep training program inside Kiri, built with pediatric sleep specialist Courtney Palm. The Sleep Specialist is the conversational layer on top of it. Most families use both:

The conversation
Ask anything, any time, get a pediatric-grade answer with sources. Best for the questions that come up between pediatrician visits and during a sleep crisis at 3am.
Frequently asked questions
How is this different from asking ChatGPT or Google?
A general AI doesn't know your baby's age, sleep history, or what you've already tried. The Sleep Specialist starts every conversation already aware of your child's actual data, and it's tuned for pediatric sleep specifically — so it doesn't hallucinate adult sleep advice into infant contexts, which is a real failure mode of general models.
Does it replace DreamGenius?
No — they complement each other. DreamGenius is a structured 2-week sleep training program built with pediatric sleep specialist Courtney Palm. The Sleep Specialist is conversational: ask anything any time, get a sourced answer. Many families use both: DreamGenius for the program, the Specialist for the day-to-day questions.
Is it actually available 24/7?
Yes. The Specialist runs inside the Kiri app, no scheduling required. Designed for the 3am question you didn't know you'd have at 9pm.
What can't it help with?
Anything outside pediatric sleep gets routed to the right specialist on the team (Pediatrician, Lactation, Nutrition, etc.), or flagged for a real clinician. Medical emergencies, persistent illness, breathing concerns during sleep, and significant feeding issues should always go to your pediatrician first.
Is my baby's data private?
Yes. Sleep, feeding, and health data captured in Kiri is encrypted and not sold to advertisers. See our privacy policy for the full disclosure on what's collected and how it's used.
Have a sleep question right now?
Download Kiri free, log a few nights, and ask the Sleep Specialist anything. Most parents get to a working answer before their baby's next wake.
